The Best Modern Male Film Actors – Part 2

Following Part One of our blog on The Best Modern Film Actors, it is time to enter the auditorium, once again, purchase a ticket for the stalls and grab some popcorn. There are so many great modern actors that there was not time enough to list them all, so to make sure all the truly top actors are mentioned, here is our second rummage into the stars of the Silver Screen.

Jack Nicholson

This three-time Academy Award winner has a profound claim to fame, he has been nominated for an Oscar in every decade since his first movie in the 1960’s. Only Michael Caine has the same distinction. Jack Nicholson’s face is perfect for the big screen, his off-skew crooked smile portrays a thousand words. He is perfect for roles that are a little off beat, and can play almost any genre of film including comedy. Who can forget his portrayal of the drunken lawyer in the cult film Easy Rider, other notable performances came in: The Shining, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, As Good as it Gets, Chinatown, The Departed and A Few Good Men.

Tom Hanks

Tom Hanks is predominantly a film actor but he also is a director, writer and film producer. Tom Hanks acting career started on the small screen before achieving acclaim for his first major role in Philadelphia alongside Denzel Washington. Some of his classic films include, Forrest Gump, Saving Private Ryan, Apollo 13, and Road to Perdition.

Morgan Freeman

Possibly the most recognisable male voice in cinema today. Born in Tennessee, Freeman’s southern drawl has given his roles a calm demeanour and authority. Morgan Freeman’s voice is so distinctive many advertising companies and animation films queue up for his talents. His awards have been as Best Supporting Actor Oscar for Million Dollar Baby and Academy Award nominations for roles in Driving Miss Daisy, The Shawshank Redemption and Invictus.

Anthony Hopkins

Born in Wales, Anthony Hopkins is a classically trained Shakespearean actor. And is just as happy treading the boards in theatre productions or appearing on the big screen. Heavily influenced by fellow Welshman Richard Burton, Hopkins is a serious actor and plays monumental roles. Some of his greatest performances have been in: Amistad, The Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal, The Remains of the Day, Nixon and The Elephant Man.Christoph.

Christoph Waltz

One of the new breed of modern actors, this Austrian-German actor has shaken the film world with his stupendous character acting. Known for his close work with filmmaker Quentin Tarantino, he broke onto the world stage with his performance of SS-Standartenfuhrer Hans Landa in the blockbuster film Inglorious Basters. Christoph also starred in the 2012, Quentin Tarantino film Django Unchained, and opposite Daniel Craig in 2015 in the James Bond movie Spectre. Other major roles he has played are in the films, The Legend of Tarzan, The Green Hornet, and The Three Musketeers.

These modern actors have different difficulties to face than their classic counterparts of the 1940’s & 50’s. Although often seemed as pampered gods, the film technology this day and age means they have to one hundred percent accurate, one hundred percent of the time.
