The Best Modern Female Film Actors – Part 1

A really difficult job is to make a list of the best actresses and female movie stars that are currently starring on the big screen. Our compilation is in no particular order, but delves into the talents of the new crop of respected and popular young actresses that command today’s Big Screen.

Cate Blanchett

This young Australian actress has to be on our list, she has won two Academy Awards, three Golden Globe Awards, three British Academy Awards and three Screen Actors Guild Awards. Cate is in demand in all forms of Cinema, from playing lead roles in the likes of The Monuments Men, to Animation films such as The Jungle Book and even starring in TV epics. Perhaps her best lead role to date was as Queen Elizabeth I in the historical films, Elizabeth 1998 and Elizabeth The Golden Age in 2007.

Kate Winslet

Kate Winslet is not an actress to take the easy roles in cinema, born in Britain she has always opted for more eclectic roles. She like the more complex parts of a rather off-beat and devilish damsel. Kate is just at home playing Shakespeare to modern cinematic roles; her talent always carries her majestically through. Films of note are: Titanic, Divergent, Insurgent, Iris, and Enigma. She won an Oscar for her role in The Reader, three Golden Globes, and three BAFTAS, and many other awards in her glittering career to date.

Anne Hathaway

Her demure looks are almost British, but Anne Hathaway is American as they come. Born in Brooklyn mostly of Irish descent, Anne Hathaway is a famous face on cinema screens across the world.

Her roles have been diverse, and she seems happy to play almost any part whatsoever. A talented actress with stunning looks she graces any role she is required to play. Her most famous films to date include, Interstellar, The Devil Wears Prada, The Dark Knight Rises, Brokeback Mountain, and Alice Through the Looking Glass.

Anne Hathaway

Gwyneth Paltrow

Gwyneth Paltrow is a tall, lithesome beauty from Los Angeles who brings great command and control to her acting. Born out of movie stock, her father Bruce Paltrow is a director and her mother is an award-winning actress, it was obvious that young Gwyneth was born for stardom. She has starred in all the Iron Man movies alongside Robert Downey Jr, and other top movies she played a major part include: Shakespeare in Love, Emma, The Talented Mr. Ripley, The Avengers and Possession.

Helena Bonham Carter

One of Britain’s most acclaimed modern actresses, and one of its most successful. Born in London, Helena is an actress who is extremely versatile and can play just about any role thrown at her. Originally cast in typical classic English historical roles, Helena formed a great bond with the cult director Tim Burton, and actually made seven films with him. Now almost every movie that is released she is considered for the female role. Her films are diverse and show her great talent, these are some of her best, Alice in Wonderland, Sweeney Todd, Dark Shadows, Cinderella, The King’s Speech, Alice Through the Looking Glass, the Harry Potter films and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.


These actresses all have one huge thing common that has helped them catapult to the top of the female movie stars list, and that is talent. Every one of them is extraordinarily talented and have brought pleasure to millions of moviegoers.
